Recap: Move Health’s Virtual 2025 Open Enrollment Summit
Four sessions, six speakers, over 100 registrants, and countless amounts of valuable insights and information about Medicare and ACA Marketplace Open Enrollment made for an amazing day! If you missed Move Health’s virtual 2025 Open Enrollment Summit or just want a refresher on all the insightful material, check out the recap below:
Session One:
Our first session answered the big question, “Why should financial advisors care about Open Enrollment?”
During this session, Christine Simone, Partner at Move Health, brought up an Accenture report that found that 40% of respondents reported they were looking for insurance advice as a product/service beyond core investment management.
Additionally, 65% of clients expect health insurance advice, but only a small fraction receive it from their advisors. As Christine shared in this session, this creates an opportunity for financial advisors to exceed client expectations. She emphasized the significance of reviewing health insurance plans annually, especially during Open Enrollment, and encouraged advisors to seize this opportunity to strengthen client relationships and provide trusted advice.
Session Two:
Next, Drew Shockley, CMIP, Co-Founder & Head of Development at Move Health, led one of two CE-eligible sessions covering everything financial advisors need to know about the ACA Marketplace and Medicare Open Enrollment.
In this session, Drew covered important information about this year’s ACA Open Enrollment period, with a particular focus on how the recent One Big Beautiful Bill Act impacts the ACA Marketplace and clients’ coverage.
Session Three:
Financial advisors came ready with questions during our most popular session of the day, “What Financial Advisors Need To Know About Medicare Open Enrollment.”
Drew covered the pieces and parts of Medicare, including what they cover and their associated costs. With those basics understood, Drew then explained the many types of decisions and choices that can be made during Medicare Open Enrollment, running annually from October 15th to December 7th.
Session Four:
The last session of Move Health’s 2025 Open Enrollment Summit featured an expert panel of forward-thinking advisors and Move Health’s Head of Growth, Cole Craven. Cole moderated a discussion between Jennifer Fensley, Capsouth Wealth Management Personal Wealth Director; Judson Meinhart, CFP, BFA™, MBA, CTS™, Modera Wealth Management Director of Financial Planning; and Clifford P. Haugen, CFA, BLBB Advisors Principal & Financial Advisor—talk about a star-studded panel!
Our panelists shared various approaches for communicating healthcare planning services to clients for Open Enrollment, including the use of webinars, newsletters, and targeted emails, while emphasizing the importance of leveraging client data and life events to be proactive. The discussion concluded with practical implementation strategies for financial advisors to incorporate healthcare planning into their client services, including the use of Move Health as a partner and building healthcare planning into regular client communications.
Final Thoughts:
Open Enrollment for Medicare and the ACA Marketplace can be a stressful time for clients who need to enroll or update their plans, but 65% of clients expect health insurance advice from their advisor, making Open Enrollment a critical time to showcase your comprehensive, holistic approach to both current and future clients!
All the sessions in Move Health’s Open Enrollment Summit showed the importance of using Open Enrollment as a planning opportunity for advisors to improve clients' overall financial plans, grow their practice, deepen advisor-client relationships, and offer a highly sought-after service.
With that said, if you're a Move Health partner advisor, now is the time to start initiating client engagements for your clients on Medicare. And for clients on ACA Marketplace coverage, you'll want to start initiating client engagements in October.
